die before you die

Ironic, but one of the most intimate acts
of our body is
death.

So beautiful appeared my death –
knowing Who then I would kiss,
I died a thousand times before I died.

“Die before you die,” said the Prophet
Muhammad.

Have wings that feared ever
touched the Sun?

I was born when all I once
feared – I could
love.

fear them not

[Surah Al-i-Imran, 3:173-178]

Those to whom the people said, ‘All the people have gathered against you; so fear them.’ That only increased them in faith, and they said, ‘Allah is sufficient for us, and He is an excellent trustee.’

So they returned with Allah’s blessing and grace, untouched by any evil. They pursued the pleasure of Allah, and Allah is dispenser of a great grace.

That is only Satan frightening his followers! So fear them not, and fear Me, should you be faithful.

Do not grieve for those who are active in unfaith; they will not hurt Allah in the least: Allah desires to give them no share in the Hereafter, and there is a great punishment for them.

Those who have bought unfaith for faith will not hurt Allah in the least, and there is a painful punishment for them.

Let the faithless not suppose that the respite that We grant them is good for their souls: We give them respite only that they may increase in sin, and there is a humiliating punishment for them.

Revolution

This is a revolution of tears.
This is a revolution of love.
This is a revolution of beauty.
Of eternal salvation.
A revolution of evolution.
Of the mind and the soul and the world as a whole.
This.
Is a revolution.

A man making his eternal stand, his sister prostrating onto the sand
The tears, the pain, the chaos—insane; his beard once white and now bloodstained
His family slaughtered, their bodies now scattered,
The faces in front of him: once with him, now hating him.
A promise forgotten, he stood there abandoned, but no despair showed in his prayer
God was his only goal, saving Islam his only role.
With dhikr on his lips and a soul so extolled
The ground trembled when his head fell to the floor.
On that day, the skies wept blood.
“Husayn has been killed” was the cry, Husayn has been killed and this is his blood

Time at a standstill, this was their free-will.
Fire and chains; hunger and thirst.
A mother’s pain, a sister’s hurt.
Even in rags and chains, their dignity could not be taken away.
The walk of her mother; the talk of her father.
Her words raged in their ears, her face showed no sign of fear
They wanted to break her, so they tried to mock her, but all they could do was gawk when she said
“I see nothing except the beauty of God”
She said,
I see nothing but beauty.
And with these tears, nations will rise
And with these words the fire in our enemies dies.

The fire in our hearts over the love of Husayn, should be so strong it can’t be contained.
From the message of Husayn, there’s so much to retain
Justice, truth, and God must all be maintained.
And there is nothing they can do to hurt us, there is nothing they can do to stop us

And this is a revolution.
This is a revolution.

—– But this, today, this is not a revolution.

A nation of Apathy, we never get antsy. Our maximum sympathies are lacking humanity
The enemy laughs ever so gladly as we sit by idly doing nothing too fancy
Our gazes are fixed, our minds are Husayn, we want to be by his side, but our cries slowly subside
Consoling ourselves over the loss of Husayn, we shop till we drop and buy all these brand names
We think we’re okay, the best of mankind, little do we know we’re backing war-crimes
We’re dancing and laughing, in entertainment immersed.
But there’s Occupation frustration hunger and thirst
Oppression, subjection, a killer’s galore- the world has become everything deplored.

Another man crying, a prince in disguise, wondering how we can be so blind
He shakes his head and bides his time, waiting for us to finally realize
That these two men are one and the same, a message sublime, a leader divine
The lower we fall the higher we’ll rise, the brighter the moon the higher the tide.

will we ever kiss the sand?

when the dunya turns its back on you
when its inhabitants violently rip themselves
from the umbilical cords connecting them to Life,
to the Eternal, to the Living, to the Truth
when we’re seeking meaning in this mess,
confusing ourselves for our ephemeral bodies
and our hands reach out, desperate to connect,
craving that sand should run through our fingers,
the sand that is mixed with your blood and tears,
but all we can touch is silver and gold
if you are our ship,
then Truth is the wind
the ground you fell on beyond our reach
so we settle for
these structures we’ve erected
replacements for the sand
will we ever touch your blood,
will we ever kiss the sand?

the mind

“I believe that the mind can be permanently profaned by the habit of attending to trivial things, so that all our thoughts shall be tinged with triviality. Our very intellect shall be macadamized, as it were, — its foundation broken into fragments for the wheels of travel to roll over; and if you would know what will make the most durable pavement, surpassing rolled stones, spruce blocks, and asphaltum, you have only to look into some of our minds which have been subjected to this treatment for so long.
If we have thus desecrated ourselves, — as who has not? — the remedy will be by wariness and devotion to reconsecrate ourselves, and make once more a fane of the mind. We should treat our minds, that is, ourselves, as innocent and ingenuous children, whose guardians we are, and be careful what objects and what subjects we thrust on their attention. Read not the Times. Read the Eternities. Conventionalities are at length as bad as impurities. Even the facts of science may dust the mind by their dryness, unless they are in a sense effaced each morning, or rather rendered fertile by the dews of fresh and living truth. Knowledge does not come to us by details, but in flashes of light from heaven.

… Have we no culture, no refinement, — but skill only to live coarsely and serve the Devil? — to acquire a little worldly wealth, or fame, or liberty, and make a false show with it, as if we were all husk and shell, with no tender and living kernel to us? Shall our institutions be like those chesnut-burs which contain abortive nuts, perfect only to prick the fingers? ”

fear of death

“For I tell you, Athenians, the fear of death is simply this, thinking yourself wise when you are not; it’s thinking you know what you don’t know. Death may even be the greatest of all good things for a human being – no one knows, yet people fear it as if they knew for sure that it’s the greatest of bad things. And how is this kind of ignorance not reprehensible – thinking one knows what one doesn’t?”

granted supplication

“He, who has been granted with three things, has not been denied from three things: He, who has been granted with supplication, has been granted with the answer. He, who has been granted with the gratitude, has been granted with the increment; and he who has been granted with (tawakkul) trust, has been granted with sufficiency… Have you not read the Book of Allah, to Whom belong Might and Majesty: ‘And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, He will suffice him’. And He said: ‘If you are thankful, surely I will increase you’, (Qur’an, 14:7). Also, He said: ‘Call upon Me and I will answer you, (Qur’an, 40:60)?’ ”

[Narrated from Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq, in Al-Kafi, Book of Belief, Hadith 1599, p.141 (trans: WOFIS).]

You have been granted supplication. Deep.

a beautiful hadith

Bismillah

One of the most beautiful hadith that I have read in awhile.

Reference: Al-Kafi, Book of Belief 23-26 (WOFIS:Tehran), pg. 133.

The Messenger of Allãh (saw) said: ‘Allãh, to Whom belong Might and Majesty, said:

“Among my faithful servants, there are some servants whose religious affairs are not amended except by wealth, amplitude and healthy body, so I test them by wealth, amplitude and healthy body to amend their religious affairs. Also, there are among my faithful servants some servants whose religious affairs is not amended except by poverty, misery and illness in their bodies, so I test them by poverty, misery and illness to amend their religious affairs. So, I know better what amends the religious affairs of my faithful servants.

And there are among my faithful servants who endeavour to worship me, they wake up from the sweet sleep of their comfortable beds, to spend the night in prayer and trouble themselves in my worship. Then I cause him sleep for one night or two because of the insight I have on him and preservation on him. So, he sleeps till morning, and then he wakes up while he is hateful and blaming himself, [for missing the night prayer]. In case, if I leave to his discretion to worship me as he likes, pride will over take him, and that pride will lead him to temptation with regard to his deeds (a‘mãl), which will perish his religion due to his pride and his self-satisfaction until he believes that he has surpassed all worshippers and exceeded in his worship the limit of negligence. Then he will keep away from me while he thinks that he is coming close to me.

So, those who do good deeds to receive My reward should not rely on their deeds because as much as they endeavour and trouble themselves and dedicate their lifetime to My worship, they are still neglectful, immature in their worship to attain the depth of My worship in what they are seeking from Me of my generosity and bliss in My Gardens, high and exalted ranks in My proximity. Rather, on My Mercy they should trust and on My Bounty they should rejoice. Thus, with good opinion, they should have confidence on Me since my Mercy will overtake them; and from Me My pleasure will reach them, and My forgiveness will dress them with My pardon. Verily, I am Allãh, the Beneficent, the Merciful; and by that I am called so.”
